Introduction
This meta-task covers the overarching philosophy and architectural principles guiding the SPaDE project.
It addresses the foundational concepts, design decisions, and strategic direction that inform the development of the various subsystems within SPaDE.
The goal is to ensure coherence and alignment across the project, providing a clear framework within which individual components and agents operate.
The work falls into two principal areas:
- Philosophy: Establishing the guiding principles, values, and conceptual framework that underpin the SPaDE project.
There are two particular areas deemed philosophical which will represent the early activities in this area.
The first is the idea of “universal foundational institution” and the arguments supporting thesis that SPaDE’s logical system consitututes such an institution.
The second is the question of values and their evolution into the distant future, and specifically, what can best be done to clarify what it means for intelligence to be benign and how can we improve the chances that benign intelligence will predominate in the long term.
- Architecture: Defining the structural organization, design patterns, and interaction mechanisms that shape the development and integration of the various subsystems within SPaDE.
Those aspect of SPaDE which are externally significant, either because they are essential to making use of SPaDE or because they impact contributions to the SPaDE ecosystem beyond the core implemented in this project, are considered architectural and should as far as practicable be formalised in HOL for eventual transfer into SPaDE repositories enabling SPaDE RSI (recursive self-improvement).
